  1. Not much in San Pedro except Ports O' Call Village and a visit to Cabrillo Beach. It's mostly a shipping port (with a cruise dock)

You could go to Long Beach and visit the Aquarium, Shoreline Village, and the Queen Mary. Also, Pine ave has lots of restaurants and theaters.

  2. FYI, Ports O' Call Village is really tacky. They tried for something nice, but San Pedro doesn't have a very large well-off population.

You will find most of San P to be kinda rough. It is a port town even more so than Long Beach. They do have some hidden nice neighborhoods though and San P doesn't get enough credit for not being completely barrio. There are some hidden treasures there.

The 2 blocks of downtown is pretty cute, eat at the Whale and Ale for English style pub fare. Sometimes they have sea chanty sing alongs. There are tons of dive bars, Godmother's is a good place to go for a drink and to watch a jazz band. For an exotic meal eat at Babouch, it's Morrocan food. For casual food or to pick up picnic supplies go to Busy Bee Market for sandwiches. If you like Greek food try Papadakis Taverna. Omelette & Waffle Shop is good for breakfast and so is Gaffey Street Diner. Baja Fish has great fish tacos. 710 Grille is a good place to get burgers.

The Korean Friendship is a must see. It's beautiful and you get an awesome view of the Pacific up there. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, Point Fermin Lighthouse, Point Fermin Park,  Drum Barracks Civil War Museum, White Point Park, South Coast Botanic Garden, Royal Palms State Beach,  Los Angeles Maritime Museum and Wayfarers Chapel are all worth visiting. Cabrillo  Beach is pretty and has tide pools. Be sure to mapquest its location before you check it out. The website is below. San P is hilly and has some great spots to get out and see most of the city all the way to downtown LA if the air is clear. There are also some great spots where you can see all of the port. At night they really light the ports up. The website below will give you addresses.

While you are there you should take a drive along East Palos Verdes Dr. on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. There are great views all along the drive, some places to pull off and take pics or hike and if you're lucky you might see migrating whales.

  3. Have a romantic picnic on the beach. Bring some candles, chicken or something, a blanket to sit on. Bring some champaigne or wine. I think that's romantic!!! Go a little before sunset so you can watch it together.

  4. In San Pedro, you stay HIGH above the beach to get the best views.  It is not really a swimming beach kind of town. If you are in for the whole weekend, just grab your wheels and go into Long Beach (Belmont Shore), Los Angeles (perhaps the Music Center or Beverly Hills), Santa Monica, Pasadena, or any of the beach towns to the north of you to explore.  To me, towns to the south in Orange County are not so interesting (kinda plastic), but some like that feeling.

How about you make one big circle each day?  Keep it casual.

      - Saturday, explore inland, starting with Los Alamitos, Long Beach, Belmont Shore for lunch, then up to the LA County Arboretum in Arcadia (or alternatively Huntington Gardens in San Marino), then to Pasadena and ending there in Old Town for a nice dinner?  The Norton Simon Museum is also there if you need to see art.

      - Sunday, zoom up to Santa Barbara for brunch, then wander your way back down the coast, stopping in little beach towns, meandering as you go.  Stop to take lots of pics, smell the air, marvel at the California miracle, and enjoy each other's company.  Grab a snack anyplace that looks appealing, but I would suggest the funkier the better.  Get out and walk if you are so inclined, but just be sure you have your sunblock and brimmed hats.

Oh boy, I need a vacation!

    Have fun!

PS All these places will be happy to separate you from your hard-earned money if you like, but you can do it without dropping a lot, too.  I am not a shopper, but all these places have ample shopping opportunities, and all are very photogenic, so bring your camera.
