What is something interesting I could talk about for a Public Speaking Competition?

Next week, I have to do a public speaking comp at school. I think all NSW schools are doing it. I want to talk about something interesting so I can engage the audience.I have to be able to talk about it for 4 minutes. I was thinking of doing the olympics but someone is already doing that and I want mine to be original. Do you have any ideas? if you do could you please list them for me? I need this pretty soon cuz i have to type it up by at least Thursday, Friday or the weekend. Thx!

I think a good topic would be Automatic External Defibrillators and the lack of legislation... they save soo many lives but yet its not mandatory for gyms/rec centres/schools to have them? (In Canada anyways)...

Another good topic would be to explore cardiac conditions in athletes and how they so often go undetected...

how about the russian war and how no one wants to take sides and how no one really no who did wrong and who started it and that sorta thing.

Maybe you could do an art history project using the ninja turtles as comparisons.  They each have the same name as a famous artist, and much of your audience would be able to relate to your info.  Anything that would be a good combination of fun, memorable and informative will do the trick.  Just find something that interests you.

One of the best ways to get a topic is to just do a general search on the Internet for something that interests you and read about it. Usually the topic changes as you research your original idea and find something more interesting than what you first find.

My personal short list of topics would include:

1. How interaction on the Internet has changed the way we communicate i.e. How I chose my topic for this speech. (This would be interesting. More of a story than an informative or persuasive speech.)

2. Aliens-The little green kind :)

3. Airplanes

4. Gun control in light of the recent DC v Heller case

5. Science fiction/fantasy authors

6. Conspiracy theories

7. Mission to Mars

8. Colonization of the moon
