According to Einstein, time and space are the same thing.  The abstraction of an object / event into a discrete moment / place.

Thus, you at your 12th birthday is a discrete piece of space/time; to be differentiated between the you of now.

Time itself is merely a time-like coordinate on this manifold.

In classical physics (ignoring special and general relativity), spacetime is still unified. Roger Penrose defined it as a fiber bundle with base space E^1 (time) and fiber E^3 (space). The world lines of this space are provided by the family of inertial motions of free fall under gravity.
