  1. Students with disabilities aged 3-21, whose disabilities affect their education can be found eligible for special education.  These students are taught based on their individual needs, as agreed upon by parents and school.

  2. its for students that arent very normal. This could mean they have a mental disability, or it could mean they are gifted and smarter than expected to be.

  3. Education for students with developmental disorders.

  4. student with disabilities

  5. Well, it's a service given to children who learn differently from others or need their physical environment adapted so that they are not discriminated against. Special education is a broad category, serving children with physical disabilities like cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and Blindness/Deafness (these students may or may not have intellectual deficits) to children with mental processing issues such as Attention Deficit Disorder, Severe Learning Disabilities (those students have average intelligence, but academic skills below expectations), and Mental Retardation.  The majority of students are referred to special education for reading difficulties and have average intelligence.  Gifted students are also covered also, but not funded by the federal government.

The services provided can range from having a staff member help students get organized, to tutoring, to classes where the curriculum is modified, to speech therapy, occupational and physical therapies, orientation help for the blind, and counseling services, to name a few. All special education students also are eligible to get vocational help to help them plan their futures. These services are provided by schools, and thus save parents lots of money.

  6. It's alternative teaching for students who do better with a different teaching method than the average student. Smaller classrooms, more help, with maybe more visual aids rather than just assigned reading, etc. In my opinion, it is how all school systems should be set up, as not all students are the same. Some people are audio learners, some are visual, etc. If our school systems tailored classes to fit the student we would have a much more successful learning environment. I detest the "special education" label they attach to these classes, as it makes students feel as if something is wrong with them. This is far from the truth!

  7. Special education is comprised of students whose learning needs cannot be met in a regular classroom- students with learning disabilities, developmental disabilities,  some physical disabilities, (some states also include gifted students in this category) and basically any other student who requires an IEP.
