  1. Starch is a polysaccharide of the monomer glucose.  So, when it is  hydrolyzed, it is broken down into individual glucose molecules.

  2. Although starch is made up of glucose units joined by alpha glycosidic bonds ,when it is broken down by salivary amylase the disaccharide maltose is produced.

  3. starch is a polysaccharide made up of glucose molecules. alpha amylase enzyme starch into maltose maltotriose and oligosaccharides called dextrins.( fragment containing alpha 1-6 branch point)

  4. Starch is hydrolyzed in the mouth to a small extent to produce maltose and very small amounts of glucose. In the intestine pancreatic amylase degrades starch ( a polymer of alpha 1, 4 and alpha 1, 6 linked glucose molecules ) to maltose and isomaltose. In the enterocyte brush border ( the glycocalyx )disaccharidases degrade the maltose and isomaltose to glucose which is absorbed via the GLUT transporters .
