  1. These cells are cells that have not differentiated to perform a specific function in the body ie they haven't decided what kind of cell they are going to become yet.  Ultimately (hopefully), they will be used to regenerated damaged or diseased tissue.  When stem cells are placed in a certain environment they will adapt to their surroundings and hopefully become what we want them to become in the lab.

  2. stem cells are cells that havent been given a job yet. like when people are like 8 cells big, their cells are just dividing, they dont have a certain job. when i say job i mean like heart cells, or skin cells, or liver cells, or bone cells, stuff like that. stem cell research is learning to use these cells to grow whatever kind of cell you want in a human body.

    make it a good day.

  3. It can be like your example, although I dont think we have that kind of capabilities yet.

Bone marrow transplants are probably the most common, most recognized stem cell treatment.  The correct term for it is actually a stem cell transplant.  Bone marrow by definition is stem cells.  The marrow cells turn into the different types of blood cells, and bone cells.

But, as the other person said, they are cells that can become more than one type of cell, some of them can become any type of cell.
