  1. Large companies are 'Publicly' owned, which means someone can buy 'shares' of stock in ownership of the company.

People get together to buy, sell and trade those shares of stock. This is called a Stock Market.

  2. People get together to buy, sell and trade those shares of stock. This is called a Stock Market.

The big Industrial Ventures need huge Capital resources. Normally the promoters will not be having such large scale cash, to invest. Hence they ask the people to invest in the venture, promising that part of the profit will be shared. And they issue the " Shares " ( which normally is Rs.10.00 ) to the public who have applied, and they offset the funds required for the project.

The investor will put his money, with the view that he gets more returns on the money invested, as dividend declared periodically, by the Company.

These " Shares " were, tradable in the " Stock Exchanges ", if the holder decides to sell the same, at some gain. And similarly he can buy any other Companies Shares, if he feels that the investment has potential to grow.

The place where the shares are bought and sold is called as " Stock Market " and in general it is called " Share Market ".

    Hope you are clarified.
