What is styraphone...is it recyclable? And if so would it go with plastics?

So many things come in stryaphone and I would like to know if you can recycle it and what category it would be in ... so much goes into the land fills that doesn't need to

  1. Styrofoam is a brand name for the material known as expanded polystyrene. Polystyrene is a polymer (as the name would suggest), a plastic in other words. It is made by polymerizing the monomer styrene.

    It has the resin identification code - 6

    It is not commonly recyclable, at least not in the UK, facilities simply do not exist (yet).


  2. If you mean Styrofoam, it's an expanded polyethylene.  It is a plastic, and it can be recycled.  Recyclers don't like it because it's very bulky (since it's mostly air).  Check with your particular recycler to see if they accept it and how they want it handled.
