To subscribe to something (like a forum or a Group) is to join it.

A forum is a place where people discuss things.  An online forum is usually like the online equivalent of a bulletin board, where different people can post messages and reply to each other's postings.  They're usually restricted to a certain topic or area of interest.

You could join a Yahoo group, they have message boards which are basically forums where you post information or questions.

a forum depends on who you ask, generally it's a discussion and posting site but is generally all web based, meaning there's no mail options being it's web based.
