  1. A lack of food, and essential resources!

  2. A subsistence crisis occurs when social and/or economic conditions create a situation in which the very survival of a group of individuals comes into question.  Famines are a good example.  At the time of the French Revolution, poor harvests made it difficult for peasants to pay for food, rent and taxes. Their very survival was threatened and forced them to act, in this case, against the army.
