a room of 5meters by 9meters is divided into a setting area and a dining area.

the LCD TV will be located on one of the 5m sides as it will be primary serving the seating area. the distance between the caoch and the LCD TV about 3.5 meters to 4 meters.

Also it can work for the dining area where the distance will be expanded between 5m to 7m

What is suitable LCD size in inchs for this setting?

Is there is some kind of a formula that relates LCD size (inchs) to eye distance (in meters or whatever)?

  1. aim for at least 46". i sit at about 4m from a 50" and it's just about right. actually a tad small to me. Also keep in mind that the size of the tv is 16:9 format. if you plan on watching standard definition 4:3 format content unstretched then the tv will look SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. i usually watch the 4:3 programs stretched to fit the full 16:9 but people look SLIGHTLY squished and chubby. i can live with it but can you? so take that into account

so just aim for the biggest your budget will allow.

the only chart i know of pertains to resolution and may help you:

  2. I have sort of the same setup and my 42" is perfect. I wouldn't go under 36".
