    The term "tea tree oil" is also somewhat of a misnomer since Melaleuca alternifolia is a paperbark rather than a tea tree (genus Leptospermum). Tea tree oil or melaleuca oil is a clear to very pale golden color essential oil with a fresh camphoraceous odour. It is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia which is native to the northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. The oil has beneficial medical properties (including antiseptic and antifungal action), and is also believed to have beneficial cosmetic properties.

  7. I just heard of it by my boyfriend this last year.  His family has used it on many things, canker sores, bug bites, scratches, etc....  It smells like Campho-Phenique.  Stinks to me.  I used it on a canker sore, and it did help.  It also burned.

  8. It's a pure oil culled from the leaves of a tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), native to Australia.  It's used as a topical agent for the skin.  Others also use is as a deterrent for head lice.  

    Some put it on the nap of the neck, behind the ears, or around the base of the hair in the back.  Some mix with clear, everyday use shampoo & use on the whole head.  

    It rinses clean & is not greasy when mixed with shampoo.  It also has a very pleasant smell.

    It's a natural antiseptic.

  9. tea tree oil is a very good oil. You can use it for a variety of different things. You can use it for ur skin to soften,you can use it as protein or moisterizer for your hair,you can use it for your face...it clears away darks spots that you may have on your face......theres plenty more things that ppl use tea tree oil for....sorry i cant think of all of them but thats the main things that ppl use it for. Its very good.
