What is tearing up my marigolds?

first time this has happened. have many other flowering plants and shrubs. none effected, except marigolds. flowers are torn off, and shredded, but stalks are uneffected.

Sounds like a dog. Most wild animals don't like marigolds and I plant them around my garden but my neighbors dog loves them. lol
