  1. i used to do TKD

not a bad martial arts to learn. As for show?

try taking a spinning back kick to the temple =D (how most K.O's in TKD occur)

Bruzilian Jiu-Jitsu works because they have a set of rules in the fights i know i'd personally kick the **** out of a BJJ user anyday taking out all the rules (street/bar fighting situation)

I'd recommend Krav Maga, Its an isreali based martial arts not for show at all, they hit em hard and fast and theres no prancing around.

Though you should be humble man, don't go looking for fights. Walk away whenever you can. If you can't use deadly force and explain yourself. Better explaining to a jury of 12 than get carried by 6 of your friends if you catch my drift.

  2. I am currently a black belt in kung-fu. I love it and i personally think that it is the best art to defend yourself. Also Jui-Jitzu (spelling?) which i also take is veryyy helpful you can learn all sorts of crippling throws and rolls. Also, if youre really interested in being ready for a fight, Mui-thai/ kickboxing classes will get you experienced and able to react when a punch or kick comes in.

    hope that helps!

    PLUS ONE DEFENSE

WEST HARFORD CT best dojo ever. you can learn all of what i mentioned.

  3. IMO no such thing as a best martial art.  a skilled MA should always win against an unskilled attacker if they are prepared and apply the proper techniques for the situation.  I've taken Aikido, TKD and Bak Fu Pai and have basically designed my own system based on the techniques that I have found most useful in the street and in combat in the military.

  4. Depends on the fighter but.... in general

    Muay thai...

its all about closing in and striking along with blocks.

tae kwon do is all about kicks... The average person wont have time to time a nice spin kick when some guy is running for a tackle with a beer bottle

Don't get me wrong, i bet a TKD pro will kick him nice...but just in general you know? most people react with hands..

Jiu jitsu is good for putting people to sleep lol

Still...i think if a 200 pound guy untrained punched a trained guy, he is still going to get KO'd....

Good example..UFC.... the first guy to land a nice punch.

  5. Hands down best self defense is krav maga

    Krav Maga- Israeli self defense

    Video of demo session

    Anti Terror unit

Krava maga world trainer, ( not actually #1 )

Krav maga is an Israeli self defense, no matter your size strength or weight you can defend yourself and against multiple opponents if need, im only 5,8 and have learned krav maga form an Israeli commando,i am not scared of anyone because it gives you confidence, its all about speed, technique and mind set. Its called krav maga, check it out, i posted some youtube videos

    ,

In Krav Maga they learn how to defend themselves in any situation, knives, gun stick, multiple opponents, its all bio-mechanics , theres no fancy c**p, its get in, Stop your attacker, get out, stay safe

Warning though- dont look fir fights, this is not what is taught because this is not a game martial arts, its not UFC, this is real self defense, not a game, its no nonsenses, tis not playign around, its agile and affective, its not a game

Just to add krav maga is a mix of jujitsu, judo, shudokan Karate, and mau-tai

  6. The best art for self defense is the one you will dedicate yourself to. You need to practice hard and realistically. Do self defense drills at full force. Sport TKD does have some self defense holes in it so be sure to fill them in. Make sure you have some ground work as well. A good school will cover this.

  7. I loved Judo and BJJ is great for a one on one fight or competitions, but, in terms of a barroom brawl or streetfight, I would go with Muay Thai. You don't have alot of room for throws, nor do you want to be tied up with someone on the ground in that situation.

  8. brazilian jujitsu is by far the best.  It is taught to army, marine, navy and police personnel. tae kwon do is more of a "show" art...not so good.

  9. Well really, if the martial art you do works for you, then thats the one you should be doing. I do Taekwondo and hapkido, and for self defense taekwondo works for me great. I have long legs and im fast, so it works for me well.

  10. In my opinion, Tae Kwon Do is probably not the most practical martial art in terms of self defense. Too much time is wasted practicing what I consider "fancy" kicks such as the 540, crescent and whatnot. There is such an emphasis on kicks that in most Tae Kwon Do schools, almost no time is ever spent in learning to punch or grapple. The best martial art for self defense in my opinion is probably a grappling martial art such as Brazilian Jiu-Jutsu or Judo. Almost all fights end up on the ground or in the clinch position where grapplers have the advantage. They can throw you, shoot on you, apply submission choke holds or joint locks. This makes grappling a much more versatile form of fighting and thus, a good form of self defense. This is extremely apparent in the first few Ultimate Fighting Championships where the Royce Gracie completely dominated. Hope that helped!

  11. you have to be kidding if you think tkd will help you in a real situation, and if you think you could defend yourself with tkd in prison i suggest you take a tube of ky gel or vaseline or something with you because you will be someones wife(only ones wife if your lucky) very quickly.lmfao.tkd=take your dough.

  12. IMHO, those who put down other arts show their ignorance of the arts.

No art will work by itself just like a paint brush cannot paint a masterpiece.  In both cases, it takes the artist to make what they have work for them.  The best artists will always produce the best results, no matter what tools they have.
