I so dislike unanswered questions.....and ads usually want you to know what they're pushing

  1. I only saw it once and it was freaky, I think its for a phone company.

  2. You are so curious about this commercial you are asking about it right?

The advertising is working.....you will find the answer you are looking for and never forget this add you speak of.

  3. I think "don't ask don't tell" applies here...if the ad isn't good enough to explain itself..not worth pursuing..

Granny Crabtree: "We feel the same about album cover art..if we can't figure out what the record's called and who it's by with contacting CSI, we move on!"

  4. It's for Verizon's new service FiOS.  FiOS is short for "fiber-optic service."  It is a video and data service that provides cable television and internet access.

The theory in putting up just the letters is that you'll be so curious as to what it is you will click the image and be directed to the website to learn more.  Interestingly, that "firey hellish" image only appears when the standard box ad for FiOS is also on the same page.

The ads you're seeing are pretty effective if you are asking about them.  Personally, I find it incredibly annoying, and when advertising annoys me I will never purchase the product or service advertised.
