It is therapeutic kinesio tape used to aid in the repair of an injury. Kerri Walsh wore it on her shoulder during the U.S. vs. China Gold Medal match due to arthroscopic surgery she had in November 2007 to repair an injury to the rotator cuff. Walsh also wore the tape in Olympic matches before the Gold Medal match. It was the topic of many blogs and Olympic questions. It does come in several colors but Walsh chose to wear black.
