I have to say that for years and years one relative made sausage balls EVERY year for the holiday. We were so tired of them, but didn't have the heart to say, 'ok, thanks but enough is enough already!' lol

  1. My daughter-in-law makes candied sweet potatoes.  My kids and I don't eat sweets WITH our meal.  It's fine for dessert, but not with the meal.  Food is food, and dessert is dessert, and never the twain shall meet...

  2. Relish plates with things like stuffed celery and radish slices.  Who's going to eat that stuff when there's pumpkin pie around?

  3. Fruitcake every holiday. I used to take them to work and put them by the coffee machine.

One year she asked if we liked the cake, so we decided to be honest.

She became extremely insulted and never brought anything again.

Funny how people don't really want the truth when they ask the question.

  4. green bean casserole and jello salad. Does anyone eat fruitcake?

  5. Green bean casserole.  It's edible but I don't see what's so special about it.

  6. Lime jello with fruit in it.

  7. Mashed cauliflower - it was supposed to be a diet replacement for mashed potatoes; the funny thing about it was that the person who begged to bring it couldn't even eat either!

  8. The red cabbage with vinegar in it........horrible, just horrible. When the bowl is passed around the table, I keep on passing it and hope the person that made it looks the other way.

  9. A great auntie always brought jellied Tomato Aspec for our Christmas dinner and she was the only one who would eat it.  It was sooo gross!

  10. everything brought/made gets ate at our house.  we have all good cooks.

  11. My mother-in-law loved fruitcake and always made a great big one for the family Christmas gathering.  I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I always ate some of it.  She was a very good cook.....  except for those dreaded fruitcakes.

  13. My former sister in -law always brought Jello and it was a big joke because everybody would say Jeri's bringing Jello oh yea and finally she said she was bringing cheese cake and we were shocked but it still looked like Jello oh well shes not in the family anymore and the rest have died off now but it was funny when my kids were small.

  17. Oh, what a great question.  My favorite aunt used to make a lime jello mold with shredded carrots and marshmallows topped with Cool Whip (or something like that).  We never had the heart to tell her not to bring it and we always felt obligated to have some.  But, I suspect that the dog got a few servings under the table.
