What is the plane that only makes a popping or clicking noise when it flys over? Today there was one that flew over about 500 ft if that. There was NO sound of a prop or a jet engine. What was it?

  1. Yikes! It's a UFO.

  2. There are no airplanes that make the kind of sound you describe.  Gliders fly with only an occasional whooshing or whistling sound.

Most likely you are seeing a glider or gliders.  The "popping or clicking" sound is coming from some other source.

If you are seeing gliders that low, then you are near the airport from which they are flying.  Are you aware of an airport nearby?  Go there on a sunny Saturday afternoon and you will see the rest of the process.

    Have fun.

  3. glider

    or lawnmower

  4. It was probably a glider. They dont have any engines, they use draft and windspeeds to stay airborn but function just as a normal plane. If you have a pic send it along!

  5. its a u f o

  6. Ram Jet or Scramjet perhaps, but those only work at really high speeds.

  7. Are you close to the end of a runway?  It could have been the engine backfiring at idle.

  8. Don't suppose you have a picture? Maybe it was a glider?

I should ask this: was it military or civilian? What shape was the wing? Color?
