  1. 1) To prevent them reproducing.

Most pet species suffer from overpopulation - there are more pets than homes. So thousands of animals are abandoned and destroyed simply for want of a home. Breeding more means more animals will suffer and die.

In theory, you could keep your pets entire, just not let them breed, but this can be easier said than done.

What if your pet escapes and gets pregnant / impregnates a neighbours pet? What if your animals turn out to have been mis-sexed and you have males and females together? What if you need to rehome your pet - will the new owner breed?

The only way to ensure no unwanted pregnancies is by neutering.

    2) Health.

In many species neutering has some impressive health benefits. For example:

Ferrets come into season and remain so until bred. A female ferret (unless spayed) will probably die if she is not bred at every season.

Female rabbits - the biggest cause of death at a young age is cancer. Spaying prevents these types of cancer, allowing the animal to live a full and healthy life.

Spaying (and castrating)  in dogs and cats also prevents various types of cancer.

Spaying also prevents phantom pregnancies, which can be very distressing for both animal and owner.

    3) Behaviour.

Many unwanted behaviours can be prevented or reduced by neutering.

Neutered animals (particularly males) are less likely to be aggressive towards same s*x animals, less likely to spray urine or otherwise mark their territory etc. Rabbits of both sexes are less likely to be aggressive to their owners.

It also allows animals to live more happily together.

For example, as a social species rabbits should not be housed alone. However, two entire males will fight seriously, two entire females may also fight, and a male and a female together will breed. Neutering enables you to keep rabbits of either s*x or both together, without either of these problems.

  2. do you mean why?

because there are already too many unwanted pets out there. its the responsible thing to do to spay or neuter your pets.

  3. It lets them live longer and happier lives.

It controls the overpopulation of pets.  Animal shelters are bursting at the seams with them due to the overpopulation; so they have to be killed.

  4. So they can't get pregnant. Some people can't take care of the puppies and they have to put them up for adoptions, and sometimes those puppies won't get adopted, and they have to euthanize them.
