What is that rattling?

It's about 8:30pm here (I live in North TX) and almost all of the time outside of my place there is this rattling noise, it's really loud and kind of strong.

I don't think it's a rattlesnake but I'm not 100% sure could it be something else?

  1. there is no way that we would know the answer to the question really...sorry :(

  2. Are you shaking your head?

It happens to me a lot when I do that!

  3. It`s probably the boogy man...

  4. Could be cicadas. The sound is almost quiet, then peaks at a very loud crescendo for awhile then drops again (at least the ones I hear right now), but the sounds vary in different species. This can go on for weeks or months in hot areas or colder areas during the summertime months. I'm currently working in China, and I can hear them outside the window right now.

Here are ten various species of cicada sounds (audio). The second one sounds like one continuous rattlesnake sound.

Listen to track number 7 from Arizona. Maybe that's the same sound.

  5. Possibly cicadas? I live in Arlington, and sometimes in the evening you hear that very loud humming sound, that is cicadas, a large flying insect. I don't know if this is the same thing you're talking about.
