  1. I don't know ex no.but Isaw it in a garden book under compost

  2. I use to live near a farmer, who raised Jersey replacement heifers.  Of course he fed silage.

I remember the smell and the smoke of the four day long fire, after his silage self combusted.  Silage gets that hot...it can burst into flames.

Once it catches fire, it's extremely difficult to put out.  Stacks of hay that are too green/wet can do the same thing.

(Have seen two silage fires, and five haystack fires)

  3. in an enclosed space there is a lack of oxygen so it does not rot it ferments.  When it ferments it is still edible.  I don't have an exact temp but I would estimate it about 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

  4. Hot enough to self combust.
