Thanks for the answers. Would this be the same as 'pipe jointing compound' or does it something else specific to this job.

  1. PTFE plumbers tape,to make a gas-tight seal,but you have to (slightly) overtighten the joint to stop it working loose

  2. Pipe Joint Compound, commonly caled pipe dope. It is a lubricant/sealer that helps the threads go all the way together for a tight seal.

  3. Thread sealing compound.

    NOTE: Use thread sealing compounds only on male NPT threads.

    (Metal-free lubricant composition containing graphite )for use in threaded connections Document Type and Number:United States Patent 5180509

    Abstract:A metal-free lubricant composition for use in threaded tube and pipe connections includes graphite and a substantially nonabrasive, friction increasing adjusting component, both dispersed in a lubricant base material in which a polyalkylene is dissolved, with the graphite being present in an amount effect to decrease a coefficient of friction of said composition, the friction increasing adjusting component being present in an amount effective to increase the coefficient of friction of the composition, and the polyalkylene being present in an amount effective to enhance formation of graphite flakes from graphite particles upon application of pressure. The lubricant composition can provide corrosion resistance as well as similar or superior lubricating properties in comparison to conventional metal-containing grease compositions

  4. It is Gas jointing paste.

  5. the gunk is called PIPE DOPE. It insures the threads are sealed gas tight. Its usually grey colored.

    They also make a white colored,,but i dont use it on gas because it contains teflon,,,and teflon is a lubricant,,,and i dont want any chance of that pipe vibrating loose,,,ever.

  6. it is a grease to protect against corrosion of the the connector

  7. Stag, Pipe jointing compound

  8. its called gas tight. if you are going to unscrew it make sure you have more to put back on

  9. this is known as gas compound it is similar to jointing compound but will not set. you have to yous gas compound on gas pipes. PS you are not aloud to brake this joint if you are not corgi.

  10. It called Gas Seal;

    Helps create a gas tight seal between the threads...
