I've already filed my 2007 tax return on 01/30/08. However, i haven't received a refund nor any contacts from the IRS since then. I did call the hot-line a few weeks ago and was told that my file had had got an error which would lead to something called "referral". (they coudn't figure out the error}.

I dont quite get what this program is, exactly. So if anybody gets a sense 'bout this particular program, please help me out. Thx for your consideration.

  1. You need to call them again and ask for a more specific answer.  Did you file electronically? If so, directly or through a service?

You should have received mail from them before now if your return was accepted.  Don't wait.  Get right on this.

  2. Based on my experience, this sounds as if the tax return went "unpostable." This means that for any number of reasons the return was not able to post to the computer and requires a live human being to fix the problem. Most of the time these cases get worked and fixed, but sometimes an internal IRS memo (a "referral") from one employee or department to another needs to be done to alert them to the problem that exists.
