all that memory and if so, what can you store on it? Like can you store games that you've rented from blockbuster so that you can play it again without having the disc??? Just curious as to why my boyfriend NEEDS the one with the 80GB and refuses the 40GB... thanks!!!

  1. The difference is more memory. You can put stuff like music, photos, and videos on your ps3. Plus some games require installs where they put a bit of data onto your hard disk in order to load faster. The 80 GB ones used to be backwards compatible as well, so you could run PSOne and PS2 games on the as well. The newer 80GB ones don't feature that. Personally, I have all my music backed up on my PS3.

  2. I have an 80gb one but i need more space...... :P ... I transfered all my naruto episodes, and 10 movies on it and only 5gb to go.... i need a 500gb one...... :p........ But, if you are not using it as a multimedia machine but only as a gaming system, even 20gb are enough!

  3. Mostly it's used for game saves, movies, music, game Demo's n traielers. thoguh some gmaes will install parts off the disc onto the HDD, ranging from 1GB to 6GB, which is where a large part fo the memory will go.

Also depending on when you read this means the 80GB HDD offer extra features

MGS4 80GB bundle- offers card reader and PS2 backwards compatablty.

New 80GB Core - No card reader or PS2 playback, is actually the 40GB with larger HDD, released from last week, This friday, next wed, Sony messed up with when stores could sell it.

You can't copy the games to the HDD, you need the Disc, the installs are only a bit of the game.

I have a 40GB and will probs be needing to update it before Xmas, the install's eat up quite a bit of space.

  4. Well I do plan on downloading games and saving my music on it we all know that a 2 gig mp3 player can be eaten up pretty quick Imagine if you have movies, music, and full version games on it.  even and 80 gig will go by very quickly.

Now if you just wanna download updates and use it just to save games then 40 gigs will be enough even 20 should be fine.  If you want to do anything more your gonna need the extra space.

I believe that you can only download movies that you have bought on there.  You cant do it with rented games.

  5. 40gb is not enough space. I'm not a big PS3 gamer, but I've only got less than 10gb of space left and that's just with 4 or 5 game installations and a few demos, even less now when I consider the fact I downloaded a 1.3gb demo and installing it now.

  6. 40Gb is far enough space. The space is used for installing playstation updates, saving games which don't really take any space at all. Also for storing movies that you wish to put on the PS3. I got a 40gb one and i got plenty of space to do everything i need to do on it
