What is the Approx. Cost Diff. between a attic truss and common truss for a 26w x 42L garage?

I would like to have storage space above garage for all the c**p we have and save my GARAGE Space for the GOOD STUFF!!!

  1. Then you need to use a "carpenters truss" instead of an engineered truss.

    Here are some examples of engineered trusses:

    A carpenters truss is two opposing rafters, joined across the top plates by a specifically sized ceiling joist, designed for the load its intended to carry.

    You have the ability to change that design load above the minimum required.  


  2. It's worth it. As a General Contractor I have talked many customers into using that space, some as living space off the 2nd level.

    It's about 30% more. But with garage space on 1st level at $30 a square foot, it's worth the 30% more for attic & room trusses and a few sheets of 3/4" T&G o.s.b., and an attic stairway pull down.

    Do it - you only get one chance.
