  1. The first answer is a good one.  I'd add that war is an art because it can be practiced and improved, but some people have greater talent at it than others.  It's not precise, and therefore cannot ever be a science.  Luck, intuition, chance and instinct all seem to play a significant part in the outcome.

The heart of a warrior is courage.  I'm irregularly and unpredictably courageous :)

Persistence earns us more victories than almost any other single tactic, so I persist.  That's how I defeat my real enemy.

  2. Well, "The Art of War" was a book by an ancient Chinese leader, Sun Tzu.  It was popular back around 1980 as an inspirational book for business managers (let's face it, they'll buy any c**p that a trade paperback publisher pushes at them--so long as it's not intelligent).

It also was a rather entertaining computer game around 1990.

I have the heart of a borderline old man who does work out regularly at this point.  "Heart" is over-rated.

I would defeat an enemy by studying the terrain, scouting strengths and weaknesses, and exploiting my resources in a combined arms attack when conditions were favorable.

  3. Von Clauswitz describes destabilising the enemy'e centre of gravity. That's an excellent place to start.

    Courage to exploit a weakness.
