on my boat look good again. I have bought different compound and I have an eclectic buffer, but I've never done anything to this extent before. Do I apply the compound with the buffer or do I do all the scrubbing by hand and just use the buffer to remove the compound, or do I remove all the compound by hand and then use the buffer just to make it shine? If I apply all with the buffer, do I have to buy multiple pads for the buffer?

I can fix anything that breaks mechanically, unfortunately, I've never had to deal with really oxidized paint before. My paint used to be Blue, now it's more like a white, blotchy blue. Can I salvage it?

  1. listen to what Carlo has to say. I think he and i went to different schools together!!  Heck i prolly know him.

  2. Are you sure its paint and not gel- coat? "Awlgrip" makes a wonderful paint cleaner and restorer with accompanying polymer polish called "Awlcare". If you have gel- coat, rubbing compound and polish is the way to go. My wife the yacht refinisher says first wash the hull with hull cleaner such as Tip Top Terrific and rinse off thoroughly with a hose, then use Fleetwax (a cleaner- polish made by Colinite) on the buffing pad and if it gets clogged run the pad a across the flat of a screwdriver and continue buffing. Finally wax with Colinite's Boat Wax using the same pad cleaned with soapy water and dried, or a fresh pad, or by hand. This is what we do in the tropics where sun and salt do astounding damage, and the treatment lasts about a year, here. Good Luck- Carlo
