  1. Bob Baffert, among others, went to the UofA and he turned out alright.  I think I would go there or UK because they know how to treat people that love horses.  If you really want to train horses for a living, you cannot do better than that.

  2. I would suggest either the University of Kentucky, or the University of Arizona.  Both have excellent equine management programs.

That said, neither will actually teach you how to train a racehorse.  Only experience under a good trainer will realy do that.  But they will give you a solid foundation to build on, and with a good degree under your belt, you are on the fast track to getting a job as an assistant trainer to any of a number of top racing trainers, and that will be your ticket to learning to train on your own.  Owners will also take you far more seriously once you break out on your own if you have a college degree to back yourself up with.

Plus, getting a degree is an excellent idea in order to have something to fall back on, should training not turn out to be your cup of tea.  Training racehorses is complicated, tiring, and often very frustrating.  Most trainers don't make a great deal of money, either.  Only the top trainers in the country make a really good living.  Of course, when things work out right, it is a great and very rewarding way to make a living.  But having options to fall back on is always a good thing.

  3. Lakeland College In Vermillion, Alberta, Canada is one of the best agriculture schools in the world.  They have been in existance for something like 80 years. They also have the best rodeo team in Canada.   The Ranch horse rider program is the one you would want to take.  My husband took it and he learned so much.  You are required to bring a two year old green broke horse and away you go.   After ryan was done school he sold his horse for $10000.  It payed for its self.

  4. You don't actually need to go to college...  you can find a horse trainer who is willing to teach you...  that would save you a lot of money.  But if you want to go to college, some good schools include University of Kentucky, Midway College, Morehead University which are all in Kentucky.  I don't know if University of Louisville has a good equestrian program or not...  I know they have a riding team, but I don't know if they have a program.  In Ohio, two good schools are Findlay and Lake Erie College.

  5. I myself went to Pacific horse Center in Elk Grove Ca. back IN 84,  but they are no longer in business.Look into "Meridith Manner"

  6. Kentucky

  7. The best school for training horses is your local racetrack

  8. Stuff college/ university, go & work in a yard and work your way up, training horses is easy its the owners that are hard work as about 70% of them are air heads on a ego trip.

  9. lake erie equestrian college.

i think thats what its called

  10. the school of life my friend.for a start you need to work for a senior trainer and see what goes on in reality and not in a classroom.work for a few years in a yard and get your hands dirty doing the jobs that are less talked about, learn from the ground up.after that time,if you still fancy the long hours and the disappointment that goes with the territory then go to school and enjoy what for some is a magnificent way of life.good luck.

  11. If you want to train horses the best education you can get is to get out in the real world and experience the work first hand in the real world.  Too many college courses (and yes I have been a pupil on one of thse courses) don't reflect the real life of working in a stable yard and having hands on experience.

If you want to be a racehorse trainer in GB you do need to meet a certain number of criteria and in recent years the BHB (now BHA) have introduced a series of NVQs that must be achieved before a trainers license is granted.  I don't know what the situation with regard to qualifications is in the USA.
