  1. Dark leafy greens.  They're great for their shells and vitality.  Also, I suggest calcium dust once a week, which can be purchased at a pet store.  Just a little does a world of good and keeps them full.  Iceberg lettuce is a BAD idea.  They get no nutrition from it.  I would also give it edible flowers if possible (hibiscus is good).  Chopped up zucchini is great too.

Once a week I would give them small pieces of cut up apple as they like that.

  2. the best food is a natural weed diet consiting of;

    Dandelion (Taraxacum officianale)

    Hawkbits (Leontodon spp.)

    Sowthistles (Sonchus spp.)

    Hawkweeds (Pictis spp.)

    Hawkbeards (Crepis spp.)

    Plantains (Plantago spp.)

    Clovers (Trifolium spp.)

Honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum) [preferred by T. hermanni]

    Cat's ears (Hypochoeris spp.)

    Vetches (Vicina spp.)

    Trefoils (Lotus spp.)

    Mallows (Malva spp.)

    Bindweeds (Calystegia spp.)

    Sedums (Sedum spp.)

    Ivy-leaved Toadflax (Cymbalaria muralis)

Also (observed eaten by T. hermanni and T. marginata in Greece):

    Robinia (pseudo-acacia) leaves

    Wild clematis

    Acanthus

    Nettles

i also include lettuce, cucumber, some broccoli but not too much as it binds calcium, pumkin, squashes, tomatoes, kale, greens i also buy living herbs such as corriander, basil, parsley and oreganeo, about once a month i feed a treat of a fruit salad with melon, strawberries, apple, pear and grapes, but this is only a treat, you should also feed  a good calcium supplement twice a week or get a cuttle fish and grate it over the food, my tortoises are fed a natural weed diet and the other food is just a supplement to the diet, you can also feed flowers from, petunia, honeysuckle, dandelions, clovers, pansys and rose petals, if you have a pricly pear cactus feed your tortoise the de-spined pads off of it they love them and it is a great source of natural calcium,  here is a site that has lots of good articles on how to care for a horsefield,  http://www.tortoisetrust.org/ best of luck with your tortoise honey

  3. Here are a few good articles to try:

Aim for 'wild' plants as much as possible- dandelions, cacti, hibiscus, hosta, and a lot of other plants that grow pretty naturally in gardens, lots, etc.

If you go for grocery store stuff, go with dark leafy greens- the lists above offer the best.

The list of things to avoid is also important. Fruit, for example, is often listed but should be avoided except as a rare snack.

  4. tortoise pellets dandelions cabbage carrot apple grape avocado avoid to much spinach as this will block vital vitamins getting into them also DO NOT FEED THEM lettuce or tomato as these use more energy to eat and digest then there is actually in the food source
