We are looking at possibly moving to this area. I was wondering if it is extremely rural or if it is a growing area? Are there any major hospitals in this area? What kind of shopping is there in this area (any malls, Target, etc..)?

  1. It is a great area.  State College (Penn State) is 10 minutes away.  There you will find Target, Wegmans, Kohl's, Home Depot, PetCo, and the list goes on.  Howard has a lot of farms.  In fact, Wegman's grocery store sells local organic fruit from Howard.  Although Howard is close to PSU, it is very rural. Chances are, if you buy a home that is actually in Howard, you will not have city water and sewerage.  The cost of living is less since it is Bald Eagle or Bellefonte school district.  I would recommend finding a home in Bellefonte or State College school district if you have kids.  Bald Eagle is small school and most teachers only hold the minimum college needed to teach.  The closest hospital is Mount Nittany.  It is also about 10 minutes from Bellefonte.  (Howard is 25 minutes from PSU.)  Hope it helped!

  2. Bellefonte is lovely.  It is a rural area with culture due to the proximity of Penn State University.  There are respectable hospitals, shopping, events, grocery stores, restaurants, as well as beautiful country
