  1. Of the name brands, Philips/Magnavox (same mfg.) is pretty much bottom of the barrel - way too many consumer complaints - but not a third tier junker like Vizio.

If you want BOTH quality and reliability in a 42" screen, with 1080p native resolution, the very best bang for the buck is a Panasonic Viera plasma, like the Th-42PZ800U or TH-42PZ80U. Consumer Reports top rated and good shopping will put it within your budget. So far superior to the Philip/Magnavox the word shouldn't even be used in the same sentence.

In this screen size LCD, a better buy than the Philips, BY FAR, is Sony Bravia (e.g., KDL-42V4100) and Toshiba Regza (e.g., 42RV530U). Again, by sharp shopping, both can be had for around $1200.

  2. you can try the 42 inch VIZIO and for more quality you can find a 42in Samsung for that price but you also have to factor in the cables and any other mounts you man need for the Tv. good luck

  3. Toshiba 42HL196 42" LCD TV (Refurbished)

1920 x 1080p HD LCD TV with HDMI $899.99 (Refurbished)

  4. The only thing I can tell you is, make sure to check out

newegg.com before you buy. Sometimes they have free shipping and they always have other user comments on there items.
