What is the Best Day of the Week to Grocery Shop for Sales?

We just had our only wage earners salary cut rather than take a layoff. I'm trying to save money on groceries and stuff we use the most. Is there a day of the week that is better to shop on when shopping for grocery loss leaders and sales?

  1. I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this difficult time financially. I like to shop on the last day of the sale. I used to  shop on the first day until I learned that it is easier to plan menus when you have two weeks specials to save on ingredients. The cost of planning a meal is at it's very lowest when you buy everything on sale and having more ingredients at a very low price will give your menus more flexibility.

Grocery stores are good at separating you from your money. If you want to save a lot try to shop the sales and stock up when the price is right, know a good price when you see it, and avoid running out of things in between sales.

I ususally ask the clerks whenever I can when they do the markdowns, the policies vary from store to store. You  can save about 50% on meat, bakery and short dated dairy/ deli products this way.

Hope this helps and that your family is through the lean times soon.
