  1. May I take this question in a different direction?

Keep in mind that full suspension on a bike isn't for comfort- it is to keep the wheels on the ground for better handling. This means that the bike should be equipped with parts appropriate for it's usage... parts that can take abuse.

Unfortunately, NO $500 bike is really intended for rough service whether it is a hardtail or full suspension, but the hardtail is likely going to be more suited for it.

I recently did a comparison of a hardtail versus a full suspension at the same price. The parts on the full suspension were necessarily much cheaper, and I discovered that in order to get the same quality parts on the full suspension as on the hardtail it would have increased the price over $200.00.

So, a $500 FS bike would have parts comparable to a $300 hardtail. On top of that, the suspension on the comparison bike was very poor performing.

I suggest you reconsider your decision to buy a full suspension bike OR add at least $200 or more to your budget.

By the way, the Iron Horse Maverick is not a full suspension bike.

  2. I agree with mirageguitarworks. You can't get a good dual suspension mountain bike for $500, in fact you can't even get a good hardtail for $500.

  3. A 2007 Iron Horse Maverick (there are different versions) on sale at http://www.performancebike.com or http://www.amazon.com can be gotten easy for that price and it is a good bike.
