Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY YOUR BIKE AT WALMART OR CANADIAN TIRE or any other mass retail store. go to a bike shop and the clerk can help you out. they really know their stuff and would be pleased to help you.

i would recommend looking at specialized or possibly, for a lesser expensive bike look at Fuji........oh and the person that said to talk the the clerk at a bike shop, well we don't like to be called 'clerks'

Automatic chain transmission bikes .

they are in the $400-600 price range.Fiberglass versions cost more.

You sound like you are buying a computer;  just how many 'functions' do you think a bike has?   And why on earth would you want 'breaks' that do NOT stop quickly?       I'd suggest you find a few real bike shops and check with the experts there to have them help you find something.....
