What is the Bloomsbury area like?

I am considering renting a nice flat there for the week after Christmas through New Years, but I was told its close to Millwall, which concerns me. Is it a good location? How close is it to, say, Piccadilly or Trafalgar?

  1. Bloomsbury is about 6 miles from Millwall. It is close in the sense that transportation is good in London, and you can get most places. Depending on where you are in Bloomsbury it is about a mile and half to Piccadilly or Trafalgar square. It is closer to Covent Garden and a lot of theater.

I stayed there in college, and it was a bit quieter back then. More of a university area very proud of it's literary heritage. I imagine it has become a lot more upscale. I would call it a good to great location if you are interested in theater, clubs and restaurants. If you are one of the ladies who lunch and you want to spend your days in Harrod's or the posh shops in Chelsea, I think you will find it inconvenient.

    ---------------

Bloomsbury is more or less anchored by the British Museum and King's Crossing/St. Pancras train station where the trains go to Paris. So one advantage of being in the area is you can buy one of those inexpensive day trips to Paris on the Eurostar, and be back in your apartment in London at night.

  2. It's a very long way from Millwall; I think you've been misled.

It's got a certain prestige, Bloomsbury, so you can expect to pay high rent; but then short-rental rates are always steep.   Lotsa restaurants, and a throbbing part of London; a longish walk from  Picc. Circus and Trafalgar Square  but lotsa cabs and busses.

Has it occured to you that lots of working Londoners will be on holiday during the times you mention/  Perhaps a bit quieter than usual.
