  1. It is all the evidence pertaining to the prosecution of a case.  It will have all statements, pictures, and crime lab reports that attempt to prove the state's point of view.  It must be provided to the defense attorney before trial, so that the person accused knows exactly what they are accused of and who is doing the accusing.  It helps to prepare a defense.  The defendant can then produce evidence to counter everything the state says - or an explanation other than what the state says.

  2. Discovery is all the information that has been discovered in a case and will be used against the defendent.

The prosocuter must give the defense all information he has discovered.

  3. Discovery is a mode for getting evidence against an offender as allowed by the Rules of Court.

  4. Discovery is all of the evidence in the case.  What it contains varies in each case.  For a traffic violation, for example, it may only be a copy of the ticket; while the discovery for an assault may contain the police report, warrant for arrest, arrest record, victim's medical records, etc.  Contrary to what you may see on television, both sides present all discovery before trial as opposed to surprises on the witness stand.

  5. There are three types/definitions.
