  1. Bone stock, high 15's in the 1/4.

Weight, around 34-3600lbs, depending on options.

    Available only with the automatic.

Hard to tell now, since everyone has changed the stickers, but the way to tell whether a 79 had the Olds or Pontiac engine without raising the hood or looking at the trans shifter (all 400's were sticks) was by the engine size decal on the hood shaker.

When new, all the 403's had "6.6 Litre" on the shaker, and the 400's had "T/A 6.6" on the shaker.    Nowadays, everyone uses the T/A 6.6 sticker, but originally it was only on the 400's.

HP on the 403 was 185.

  2. ET-sometime tommorow. Somewhere around 15-16 second quarter mile.

    HP-not many-I think it's about 190

    Weight-around 3500 lbs.

Seriously, I like these cars. But in the late '70's everything was slow, heavy and down on power. The 403 Olds was only available with an automatic trans, while the 400 Pontiac could be had with a 4 speed manual. Not that it helped much. A friend of mine had a Gold Special Edition '78 Trans Am with a 403, and that's what it would run in the quarter at Norwalk, Ohio no matter who drove it or if it had a fresh tune or last years stuff in it. They are very nice to cruise down the interstate in or just ride around town, but, they are not all that fast.

  3. 185            by the way the 78 or 77 trans ams were cooler, and had more horsiepower
