Question:

What is the Eames era?

I'm selling a coffee table on Craigslist for $65. Someone wrote me to inform me that the table I'm selling is a rare Eames era teak table and that I should be selling it for thousands.

What is the Eames era? Or when, I should say?

  1. It refers to mid-century furniture designed by Charles and Ray Eames (see link).

Such furniture has been heavily replicated and continues to be even now. If you bought this at a retail store, it's undoubtedly a replica. If you've inherited it, maybe it is the real thing.

Beware, though, of craigslist scammers. Someone may tell you how valuable it is because they want to send you a check for $5,000 and have you send them the balance. Don't fall for that one.
