What is the Economic purpose of the Triangle Trade?

I know what the Triangle Trade is, but i don't know how to explain the economic Purpose of it? help please.

  1. The economic purpose was simply commerce (making money).  Merchants made fortunes trading the raw goods and then selling finished goods back the the colonies.
