the energy crisis is where supply and demand of energy get out of balance.  Since demand is readily predictable, its usually the supply side that causes a crisis.  In the 1970's, the OPEC members decided they would curtail production.  The supply side fell and prices went up faster than expected.  People panicked and we had a crisis.  Look up crisis sometime.

In the 1990's we han an opposite panick.  Supply increased and demand kinda stopped.  The excess oil caused a crisis in the energy sector.  More jobs we lost than in the dot com business.  But that didn't matter because those energy people only cheat anyway, right.  Never mind that dot com companies stole millions from people.

Today we got caught on our estimates on demand with China and India needing lots of energy.  Then in the US we created this Global Warming issue and the environuts stopped production via the courts, making them a bigger set of bandits than OPEC ever though of being.  Then net result is supply is down and demand is higher than expected. BINGO, crisis time.

Some people say you can't drill your way out, humm, I was a drilling kinda guy in 1975 and guess what, we drilled our way out of that ALONG WITH CONSERVATION. notice the bold parts before all you liberal, AGW sheep try to make a rebuttal.
