What is the Essay for college about?

the essay that one needs to write in the application process to get into a college, what is it about? Is there anything i need to do to prepare. please and Thank you

It is your opportunity to stand out.  Not only should you prepare for it, you should realize that beyond your GPA and SAT scores it is the single most important part of the application.  

The top schools reject five to ten qualified applicants for every one they accept.  If you write a killer essay, it could make the difference between getting accepted and getting rejected.

You can do an internet search for "tips for writing college admissions essays"  Dozens of sites will pop up that will give you more information.

Colleges usually give you essay options.

Make sure it's grammatically correct, have a teacher review it. Don't make it longer than what the essay requires.

good question. the essay questions are usually simple but require alot of thought most colleges ask you to write a 200-400 word essay about your interest in attending the university, a challenge you have had to overcome. I would just tell you to practice writing essays you'll get used to it during your junior year in high school

They will usually give you topics although some just want you to talk exclusively about yourself. There are prep books that offer advice on this and other application info. I would recommend checking out your local library.
