  1. The frames per second is usually either 24 or 30.  24 is the typical frame rate from film to DVD transfers.  At best, resolution for DVD is 720x480 for widescreen format.


  2. generally speaking fps on video is more accurately described as FIELDS per second rather than frames. 30 frames is probably most common.

    resolution is 720 x 576 for PAL and 720 x 480 for NTSC. although any file size can be submitted to a DVD5 (4.7 gb single layer) it'll be presented in either sizes as stated above usually running at a data rate of between 3.5 to 7 mbps. data rate can greatly affect the image quality of a dvd. highly compressed rates (such as 3.5 mbps) will give a poorer picture in comparision to the larger 7.

    interestingly,  you could put a youtube vid on the disc at a resolution of 320 x 240 and it'll appear in the higher res when played back, naturally it'll be very blocky.
