What is the Face on Mars?

I understand that there's a feature in planet Mars that resembles closely to a human Face - which is the reason it's been named that way.

That feature on mars is named Cydonia Mensae. However it doesn't actually look like a face, it's just that the low resolution images combined with data errors happened to make it appear like a face.

It's an optical illusion caused by shadows and low-resolution photography.

I think that was a hoax.

It's just a hill.  The first pictures from just the right lighting and angle looked like a face.  Later pictures showed that it looked nothing like a face.

It's not different than when people see faces in clouds.  It's just an optical illusion.

It is just a hill or mountain region, I believe the shadows created the face that you see in that picture.
