What is the Fastest way my fiancee can work in New Zealand?

My fiancee is from USA (and is currently in USA), and I am from NZ (and currently in NZ). We want him to come out to New Zealand ASAP, but want to make sure he can work as quickly as possible!! (so we can save up to get married) We are trying to spend as little time apart as possible, and as little time apart without 2 incomes.

I have looked at immigration websites, but they are so overwhelming... and I can't find any timeframes..... I'm hoping someone has been throught this experience.

COMING TO NZ:

1) Is it better for him to come to NZ as a tourist, then get married, and THEN apply to change his status to a partner visa?

OR

Can I apply for a partner visa for him before he comes to NZ? (and how long does that take?) and if so, will that speed up his work visa? (and how long will THAT take???)

WHICH OPTION IS SHORTER? How long does a change in status take?

WORKING IN NZ:

2) Ok so lets say he is in NZ, Is it best for him to apply for his work permit once he is here? (and how long does this take?)

OR

Is he better off applying for a work permit before he leaves the states? (and how long does this take?) - note: he is over 30, so not elligible for a working holiday visa

DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF HE IS A TOURIST OR A PARTNER AT THAT POINT?

Hello i know how overwhelming this all is. I am australian an married a philipino girl, i had her come here to aust on a visitors visa and they didnt give us a multi entry which made it hard... then she left and now is back on 3 month visit visa and now we have to go to NZ to lodge her spouse visa..... as the nz government will give us a vist visa for 12 months. and the spouse visa takes 6months waiting.... If you contact them they will give u all u need. There is pervisions there but i am not sure if U are not married. If u are married u must of been residing in NZ for the past 18 months out of 3 yrs to bring them in so they can work.....RING THEM and ask as many questions as u can, NZ is better than australia...  that is why we are going there.

Not sure that there is enough work installling elevators (or lifts as you should call them) except maybe in Auckland.

I would look for international companies that have offices in New Zealand. Then go into their websites and apply from there.  A lot of companies offer relocation assistance.  Consider major companies such as: Coca-Cola, Pharmaceuticals companies, Investment firms, Consulting firms.  A lot of those companies have consultants that travel and they will pay well with that relocation assistance.  Good luck!
