Question:

What is the Feminist stance on Gold Digging?

It seems that Gold Digging is alive and well these days- going way beyond merely basing a man's worthiness on his career/income. Feminism is supposed to be about women being independent of men and not needing them. On one hand, Gold Digging creates monetary dependence on a man- with a dynamic similar to a prostitute/john relationship. On the other hand, Gold Digging merely "turns the tables" and exploits men through their "value" (versus women being exploited for their sexual value). You can say that "all men are sexual rapists" while "all women are money rapists".

What is the Feminist view on Gold-Digging?

  1. I sometimes wonder what the average man thinks of gold-digging. On the one hand they complain about having to spend all their money of dates, yet the seem to enjoy having women so dependent on them.

I for one, am not a gold digger. I'm not materialistic by nature and I have all the money I need anyways.

However, extreme cases aside, I can see why some more traditional women would be gold diggers. If you envision an old fashioned life of raising your kids while your husband provides the income, doesn't it make sense to look for a man who is wealthy and willing to spend his money on you? I mean, if you like the idea of the woman staying home, (as a lot of men seem to) why should she not take measures to guarantee her security?

So in some respects, gold digging is ok for women who aren't enlightened enough to be feminists.

  2. i think there smart girls that got the looks an the talent to get wat they want... an they go get it...

guys have been using us an treating us like cr-a-p forever... wats wrong with us turning round an using them insted???

  3. Not a feminist, but i'm against it.

  4. Men use their money to GET women.

  5. Feminism is about self empowerment and not at the expense of exploiting others.

  6. I don't like gold-diggers but I think in a way the couple is getting a strange yet fair exchange.  The man is getting the women with the image he wants and the women is getting the man with the wallet she wants.  If they are both willing then they should be allowed to.  However remember rape is unwanted and is forcefully taken from an unwilling participant.  A man should know a gold digger and thus he is a willing participant in the relationship.

  7. I do not know , nor do I care, what feminists think about gold diggers.  But I think that they are a waste of precious air and space, and choose not to deal with them at all.  Any man who wants someone high maintenance gets just what he deserves.  And he should not complain about it.  If a woman does not find me attractive, likable, interesting, and fun to be with, amongst other notable qualities, then she is encouraged to look elsewhere. No woman should settle, regardless of what she is looking for.

And I don''t care how a woman looks.  If she wants me for financial reasons, once I find out she is gone. PERIOD !!!!!

  8. For the most part, the feminist opinion of gold-digging is very low. And it's a safe bet that any woman who engages in it is not a feminist.

  9. Personally, I find the practice abhorrent. But so too do I find the male practice of only choosing the highest maintenance women because all they value is a certain kind of look: fake blonde, fake tan, fake b*****s, fake nose and trashy yet expensive clothes.

From my observations, gold diggers usually end up with shallow  as$hole men, so it's sort of poetic justice.

  10. I think women should be entitled to marry any men they want no matter what their motive is. Men marry women simply because they are beautiful. Women should be able to marry men simply because they are rich or handsome. Men also marry older women because they rich.

  11. Well put.

But the feminists would respond with something like "OH STFU THE LAST 10000 YEARS YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN LIKE BEATING US AND STUFF. WE WANT MORE WOMEN'S STUDIES COURSES, AND YOUR NOT ALLOWED MEN'S STUDIES COURSES..... BECAUSE THATS SEXIST!!!"

  12. I see it as a direct effect of imposed traditional roles.  If as a society we tell men their worth is entirely related to their paychecks and we tell women their worth is entirely related to their appearance, you end up with men flaunting their money to attract beautiful women and women flaunting their appearances to attract rich men.

It's kind of comedic to me the people who buy into these superficial dynamics by flaunting their "worth" and then complain when the opposite s*x only wants them for those same superficial reasons.

Be careful what you wish for.

  13. Divorce courts favor women, so feminists approve.

  14. Did someone say gold?

    Let me get my pickaxe!

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHAAAAAAAA!
