What is the Florida Lawn regarding car total loss?

I will like to know what is the state of Florida laws regarding total loss. What is the percentage of the estimate of damages for an insurance to classify a car to 'TOTAL LOSS'?

Some states are 70% or 80%

  1. There is no set law so to speak.  Each insurance company has their own rules governing total losses.  Most insurers, regardless of the state, will declare a vehicle a total loss if the damage does exceed 70-80% of the cars Actual Cash Value.  Some go as low as 51%, and other 90%.


  2. Most companies I deal w/ are 80%, however it is up to the specific insurance companies. If you are facing a total loss and do not want it to be totalled-then make sure you tell them that. Remember you don't have to accept their offer.
