What is the GRE TEST?

Question

I've heard of it, but otherwise know little about it. I do know it is an ability test(?) along with the SAT and ACT.

What is it?

What is its importance?

It's like the SATs, but for admission to graduate school (for a masters or PhD) instead of undergraduate.  It has the same basic sections, but the math is typically a bit easier and the reading comprehension more difficult and more expected from the writing section.

Graduate Record Examination. Similar to SAT/ACT, but for grad school, as mentioned above. I thought it was harder than the ACT, although the math was not too bad. The language section was a lot harder!  A good score can help you get into your grad school of choice.
