  3. Of course it`s Cologne! There is a company here called 4711 (which takes its name from the house number given it by inmarching Napoleonic troops) which made Kölnisch Wasser, a sort of scented alcohol which ladies used to dab on their hankies to ward off headaches. The French soldiers spread the use of it back to France, where it was called "eau de Cologne", simply the translation of Kölnisch Wasser. By the way, the original Kölnisch Wasser, which is still produced by 4711, doesn't really smell all that good...
