The Hall of Fame game is sort of a pre-cursor to the Preseason games.  Every year there is always a game that the NFL hosts to kick of the new season.   This game is to celebrate those who were recently inducted in the hall of fame.  Its a celebration game for those and it gets the season started off right..

No difference except that there are special preseason games that get larger exposure. American Bowl games and the Hall of Fame game are in that category. Of course, any team in one of these special preseason games has to play 5 preseason games instead of just 4

It's a game played immediately after the Hall of Fame inductions, and it is played in Canton, Ohio, where the Pro Football Hall of Fame is located.

It just means it's the very first preseason scrimmage. (They only call them games for the TV networks and so they can sell tickets to watch).

They always have it on the same weekend as the Hall of Fame inductions.
