I read a couple of verses in the KJV of the Bible which translated a certain kind of animal as being a "unicorn". Could it be a "rhinoceros"?I rather hear it straight from someone who knows the Hebrew for this rather than a gentile translator. Thanks!

Verses: Job 39:9-12 and Psalm 92:10 and Isaiah 34:7

  1. in the original hebrew it is רְאֵם (re'em) today identified with the oryx

note that the word "unicorn" is not used in translations other than KJV.

the legendary unicorn is not known in the bible. in modern hebrew it is חד קרן (had keren) which means "one horn".

  2. The Hebrew word is Reem ראם H7214. It is not known for certain what animal it reffered to, possibly a species now extinct. From context it was probably a buffalo- or auroch-like creature - a wild ox. Another idea  from an Arabic parallel is oryx - a wild antelope.
